This is a time to step up as world leaders gather in Copenhagen to thrash out a new global climate agreement. The outcome will only be so bold as we demand-- and it could be as dismal as we allow.
The biggest threat? That among the politicking and bureaucracy, the world forgets what's at as take.
So here's the plan: in the middle of the negotiations, candlelight vigils on every corner of the planet to put real human faces on the need for a real climate deal. It will be the world's largest ever…

Big thanks to all the people that had anything to do with the comp in Scotland at the weekend. It was a massive lifestyle detox for me, just to get out of the materialistic, money infested city and out to where it really matters. The hills. A part of the world I haven't been to for such a long time it's embarrassing to admit it.
The comp was never about winning or losing this time, just about benchmarking whether my late burst of training was actually doing anything. That said with 16 routes fl…

Off duty RMRU pair find remains likely those of missing German tourists
On Thursday, Nov. 12, off-duty Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit (RMRU) members Les Walker and Tom Mahood found skeletal remains likely those of at least one of four German tourists missing in Death Valley since 1996. Walker and Mahood organized the trip specifically to search for the missing Germans. They discovered remains in a remote area 2 hours southwest of Furnace Creek Visitors Center near the Panamint Mountains.
Inyo C…

According to the information I have no one has manage to repeat the 1984 Breashears-Lowe route on the North Face of Kwangde. So on January 5th I will depart to Nepal and try this route. I think this will be a great tune up for my 2010 Latok North Ridge Expedition.
Right now I want some cold to arrive in the alps and go ice climbing.

This is my first blog post and i would like to note down a few sentences regarding hostels. Hostels are a impressive approach to see the world on a budget. From the cheapest to the more grand there is something to accommodate every liking and plan. The cool thing regarding
hostels is that tons of university students flock to them as they are cheap and joy so there is constantly plenty of student travelers around to get-together with!
In most every other pa…

You can call it a wall, cave, gym or even woodie (not my preferred nomenclature), it's all the same. Here's the story of how I built mine (wall not woodie!).
Basically I live in a city, so figuring that rent prices or buying costs would be ridiculous close to home, I went looking in the out-of-town areas. Areas where I could see tonnes of warehousing and general industrial grey bleakness. And after 2 months of fruitless searching, with only a sheisty tin pot garage to my name, I struck lucky an…

A video appears on the Huffington Post accompanied by a story written by Sam Stein. In it monkey wrench prankster Andy Bichlbaum poses as an official of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce at a meeting of the National Press Club. Claiming the Chamber had reconsidered its views on climate change Bichlbaum compell…

Fall is clearly a season of transition. As the weather crosses over from long warm days to short brisk ones now is the time to make a similar shift in how you recreate outside. For many in southern Wisconsin, particularly those who love to bike, cyclocross is the ideal changeover sport to bridge the coo…

This was forwarded to me yesterday, and I thought I would share this with all of my friends since most of you have a website of your own. This is the top magazine for people with a website, and they are giving away subscriptions to boost their readership. The free subscription is the one on the right side of the web page below:

A few months back I took up a work opportunity in Denmark and established residence among the well off, fashion conscious, beautiful people of Copenhagen. I quickly developed extreme boredom and set about building the best woodie I could imagine for mixed climbing training. 6 weeks ago I had a warehouse with bendy walls and no electricity and a whole lot of fresh air. Now I have almost finished stage 1 of the build. I have a traverse wall, a cave, a campus board and all kinds of angles. And some…

It seemed like such a great idea. Whip up a fruit cobbler whilst backpacking or bicycle touring. Turn to your hungry exhausted friends and say, "fruit cobbler anyone?"

The recipe seems pretty killer. No eggs. Mainly dry products. Canned fruit. Could p…

9 Clients and 5 guides, it was always going to be a tall order, but it worked. There were summits, friendships made and heaps of fun had.
The first few days were spent up around the Albert 1er and then over to the Trient Hut in Switzerland. The weather was less the perfect but we all had a great time up there, even Matt who managed to fall into a crevasse on Day 2. (He was safely pulled out!!)
The night in the Trient hut was quite exciting. A major storm system passed overhead at around 3am,…
